Bismah Khan, MA, LLP provides an affirming and safe environment for her clients to be able to work through challenges. Bismah works hard to make therapy engaging, effective, individualized, and even sometimes fun. She recognizes that every individual’s values, beliefs, and experiences shape them into who they are and emphasizes the importance of affirmative and culturally competent care. Bismah has experience working with a range of ages and presenting concerns including depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, trauma, eating disorders, family conflict, self-esteem concerns, and social skills. She also often works with families going through life transitions and stressors such as separation, divorce, or loss. Bismah utilizes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Mindfulness-based interventions. Deciding to come to therapy is a big step and can bring up many different emotions ranging from excitement to worry. Bismah meets her clients where they are in their mental health journey and walks alongside them to achieve their goals. She works with individuals across the age span including young children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
When working with kids and adolescents, parents are informed and involved in the therapeutic process. Growing up in this complex world can be very challenging, and Bismah finds joy in helping kids and teens develop patterns of thinking, relating, and behaving that lead to happiness and success. Families work with Bismah to learn effective coping and communication strategies, effectively reducing stress and conflict within the home.
Additionally, Bismah has expertise in conducting psychoeducational evaluations to assess for learning disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD and ASD, anxiety and mood disorders. Her approach and overarching goal with assessments is to make them as empowering as possible; arming kids and parents with correct and comprehensive diagnoses and recommendations to forge a path forward.
After earning her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Wayne State University, Bismah went on to receive her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Wayne State University. Bismah completed her internship at Wayne State’s Mental Health and Wellness Center (MHaWC) and Children’s Hospital of Michigan’s General Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine Clinic (GPAM). Bismah has a great deal of experience working in outpatient therapy setting providing wrap around care and is a limited licensed psychologist.
