Alyssa Hedke, MA, TLLP is a counseling psychologist who is passionate about supporting children and adolescents’ mental health needs and providing parents with tools to foster their family’s resiliency and connection. Alyssa’s mission is to provide an engaging, safe space for youth to explore mental health challenges, build upon their strengths, and foster a growth mindset. She attends to the whole child, looking beyond current difficulties to understand each individual’s unique set of strengths, relationships, cultural and home context, as well as school environment. Alyssa works hard to make therapy fun for her youngest clients, integrating scientifically proven treatment approaches with creative games and activities.
Alyssa has experience in child and adolescent anxiety and mood disorders, trauma, chronic pain, social skills, ADHD, neurodevelopmental disorders, anger management, and family conflict. She often works with families experiencing significant life transitions such as divorce or bereavement. Alyssa utilizes research-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, The Incredible Years, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Collaborative Problem Solving, as well as Play Therapy to meet each individual and family’s needs and therapy goals. Alyssa supplements evidence-based therapies by incorporating art, mindfulness, and yoga into her practice and actively involves parents in treatment, ensuring sustained gains and growth.
Alyssa has expertise working with school staff and administration to advocate, create, and implement individualized school accommodations. Before earning her Master’s in Counseling Psychology, Alyssa spent six years working in schools providing academic, social/emotional, and behavioral support to children. By being embedded in classrooms, Alyssa developed a strong knowledge of how to best work with school staff, teachers, and administration to effectively implement individualized accommodations and support mental and developmental needs. Alyssa relies on this experience to ensure her clients are getting appropriate accommodations, wrap-around services, and consistent support across contexts.
After Alyssa earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Eastern Michigan University, she went on to receive her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Wayne State University. Alyssa completed her internship at Wayne State’s Mental Health and Wellness Center (MHaWC) and Children’s Hospital of Michigan’s General Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine Clinic (GPAM). Alyssa is a temporary limited licensed counselor, working under the direct supervision of Dr. Julie Braciszewski, PhD, LP.
